Fm brass 🤮
Electric piano 🤮
This is HISTORIC Thanks Roger For Your Amazing Drum Machines (Great Interview)!
ok but give us some programs.
Great to see this - I always remember Dave Crombie's extensive review of the DX7 in Electronics & Music Maker magazine in the UK in July 1985.
I saw mr. Bristow demonstrate a brand new DX7 in Roermond. That is over 40 years ago, and what a fascinating sound it had so, Bristow looked like some wizard. In the same store there was the Roland Jupiter. A dream monster today, but when I played some presets, it sounded so flat and uninteresting compared to the DX7. The Jupiter lame ?!... can you believe that? But that's what happened. Lets me think of a Buggles-song "Digital killed the analog Stuff" But analog rose from the dead: good to see.
Anyone know where I can get all the Orch samples please??
There's a kit of these on SoundCloud. Where I got mine.
Great interview with Dave Bristow! I managed to interview him (via a few emails) about 20 years ago I guess, for my old DX7 Resource Centre website. That site’s long gone now, though 🤷♂️. He truly does have a fascinating insight into one of my all time favourite keyboards 👍
Yamaha has never claimed that they invented FM.
Sounds great!
The sound is out of phase. I always get a laugh finding videos on audio subjects and the sound is crap. Too bad. It’s easy to fix and reup…
He basically sais that he grew tired and irritated quickly of that most significant Orchestral Hit sample of the Fairlight. He did only use it on one piece (possibly "Let Me Cry"). He then mainly produced his own brass samples with an ensemble, recording sounds in whole octaves. From the Fairlight he used more of the voices, that Art Of Noise also used, he liked the musicality of those. Furthermore he did not really enjoy the Fairlight presets because they were too powerful, played by a whole symphony orchestra, that was not his world.
Ich höre nur geblubber
Management: making their lack of planning an engineer's emergency since the beginning of time.
Where's the sound?
The "hits" that launched a thousand (1980s) hits.
What's the preset used in the Mortal Kombat soundtrack? It's in almost every arcade game soundtrack from the 80s.
Fantastic video / interview! I wish he had specifically mentioned REFS WHISL .. I can understand the deadline pressures and having to rush out a lot of sounds at the last minute .. but really? A fixed pitch referee whistle? ;)
Yamaha asked them to do some specific sounds on top of the ones Gary & Dave already had in mind.
Such a versatile synth!
Closed caption option would be useful here. ;) Even auto-generated could give some better understanding.
I buy your CMI if it will be for sale, Best regards Magnus amedia@hotmail.com
boris -ach da ein vst plugin draus. bitte. ❤️👍

Fix the phase!
Aww rats!..... I so want to learn the secrets of "his sound". I guess the secret is that I have to learn german?

Orch 2: "Planet Rock" by Africa Bambaataa & Soulsonic Force (1982 Tommy boy) produced by Arthur Baker and John Robie.
English subtitles?
NICE! I remember when Prince was using a Fairlight back in the late 80s, especially with his Jazz/Funk/Fusion band MADHOUSE. Good times!
Orch 2 is used in the song Planet Rock by Afrika Bambaataa
just copped a dx7iiD for cheap - its great
oo i forget about some of these applications some time, especially the delay ducking! Thanks guys
does anyone know which one "spear of justice" uses?
i believe that the opening chord in that song was made with individual samples rather than a preset one like this
01 0:00:00 02 0:00:52 03 0:01:28 04 0:01:56 05 0:02:35
Je n'ai pas de son.
I need a translator STAT!!!
The swiss accent is wundershcön.

I wish there were subtitles.
His music is absolutely ethereal ... I recommend the album Pure Stillness to begin your listening journey with Henning Flintholm.

*Marco Basci about the orchestra hit.* Marco Basci: Silent for almost 2 minutes. Oh, so he has nothing to say about orchestra hit.
The king in my life
Useless samples through your camera mic. Lame.
These sample libraries are still commercially available if you need them in good quality.
@Xeraser No.
Sound is 100% out of phase! On phones you only hear the MPEG artefacts, no audio! Switch MONO and the sound is gone!
